Horizontal Directional Drilling

Horizontal Directional Drilling is a method of installing pipes, cables or conduits without the need to dig trenches. Markey Drilling Ltd have been Directional Drilling specialists for over 20 years. Using the latest technology and machinery, we have successfully completed numerous HDD projects throughout Ireland and the UK.

Horizontal Directional Drilling is a guided trenchless method in which a pilot borehole is drilled along a predetermined bore path, subsequent hole enlargement follows the path set by the pilot bore from the surface. This method of HDD leaves minimum disturbance to the surrounding areas and favourable for environmentally sensitive locations. It is cost effective and cuts down on operational time compared to traditional open cut methods.

The Advantages

Our drill rigs are capable of four way dimensional steering, which allows our operators to pilot bore a pre-determined route, any corrections or changes to be made where necessary on route.

  • Short, medium and long lengths of pipe can be installed without intermediate pits.
  • Pipes are installed straight or curved to steer clear of obstacles and existing services.
  • No disruption to road, river or rail traffic and no scarring of the landscape.
  • Unaffected by surface obstacles such as buildings, trees, roads, and rivers.
  • Environmentally friendly process.
